Note: The online “RCR” training course offered through CITI is no longer required.

All trainees, fellows, participants, and scholars receiving support through NIH and NSF awards are required to complete the 8 hours of face-to-face training in the responsible conduct of research, or ethical and professional behavior in scientific research. Because you receive funding from NIH or NSF, you are responsible for ensuring that your staff completes this requirement. The training requirement must be fulfilled within the first year after an award has been made and before the student or research, staff member completes or departs the project. The training requirement must be renewed every four years and after a change in status, such as from undergraduate to graduate student.

Note: Faculty are always welcome, but not required to attend the training.

The Office of Research Integrity offers training opportunities to ensure that you meet the requirements of your funding agency. Please know that UTSA is required to track and verify training of all students and research staff funded on these awards.

For more information on NSF requirements, visit https://www.nsf.gov/pubs/policydocs/rcr/rcrfaqs.jsp?org=NSF

Please let me know if you have any questions concerning this request or if you have questions about the training status of your students.
