Making the Transition from Cyber Academia and Research to Industry Application

image0011Please join us as we welcome Chris Hetner from the Securities and Exchange Commission to UTSA. Chris will give a talk that will focus on what it takes to make the  transition from academia to the corporate world while ensuring the technical skills and research being developed in academia are addressing the needs of industries.

Chris Hetner is the current Cybersecurity Lead for the Technology Control Program within the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) Office of Compliance Inspections and Examinations (OCIE). He was named the SEC Senior Advisor on Cybersecurity Policy in June 2016. He is responsible for coordinating efforts across the agency to address cybersecurity policy, engaging with external stakeholders, and further enhance the SEC’s mechanisms for assessing broad-based market risk. He worked for Ernst and Young (EY) and was the CISO at GE Capital. Chris holds industry-leading certifications including the CISSP (Certified Information Systems Security Professional), NSA INFOSEC (National Security Agency Information Security) Assessment Certification and CISM (Certified Information Security Manager). He earned a M.S. in Information Assurance from Norwich University and a B.S in Security Management from The City University of New York’s John Jay College of Criminal Justice.
