Marianne Rinaldo Woods, Ph.D., J.D., is the Senior Associate Vice President for Research at the University of Texas at San Antonio. In this position she is responsible for all aspects of research administration including the Office of Sponsored Programs (pre and post award); the Office of Research Integrity and Compliance; the Office of Contracts and Industrial Agreements; the Office of Laboratory Animal Research; and, the Office of Commercialization Alliances and Innovation. She serves as co-chair of the University’s Responsible Conduct in Research Committee. Dr. Woods is also responsible for the development and implementation of university-wide policies and procedures ranging from export controls to intellectual property. Dr. Woods teaches part-time in the College of Public Policy.
Dr. Woods has extensive experience in developing and negotiating F&A, development of recharge centers and specialized research units, and chemical inventory systems. Dr. Woods is a Board Member on the Council on Governmental Relations (COGR) and serves as a member of the COGR Contract and Intellectual Property Committee. She is a Board member of The University/Industry Demonstration Partnership, National Academy of Science. She is co-chair of the Federal Demonstration Partnership Export Controls sub-committee. She is also past board member of the Biotechnology Association of Alabama; the Texas Society for Biomedical Research; and the Alabama State EPSCoR Steering Committee.
Dr. Woods is the 2009 recipient of the National Council of University Research Administrators’ (NCURA) highest honor, the Achievement in Research Administration Award. She is also one of the recipients of the 2006 Licensing Executive Society’s National Deal of Distinction Award. She is a past president of the Texas Technology Transfer Association (T3A).
She is currently chair of NCURA Region V, lead faculty on NCURA’s Departmental Research Administration Workshop, and a member of NCURA’s Peer Review Program. She is also the former co-editor of the NCURA Newsletter, former member of NCURA’s Professional Development Committee and Membership Committee, and a former member, both elected and Presidential appointee, of NCURA’s Board of Directors. She is a past recipient of the NCURA’s National Distinguished Service Award and NCURA’s Region V Distinguished Service Award. She has served as faculty for NCURA’s Fundamentals workshop, Export Controls & Embargoes seminars and webinars, Intellectual Property Workshops, and Law for the Pre-award Research Administrator.
