Mission Statement
The Office of the Senior Associate Vice President for Research Development provides a variety of services to UTSA faculty to facilitate the development of strategic partnerships and the expansion of the UTSA research portfolio. These services include management support for the development of large, multidisciplinary research programs, the development of an electronic research information environment and providing financial advice and support to researchers. Through these efforts, the goals established in the UTSA 2016 Strategic Plan become reality.

Prior to his role at UTSA as Senior Associate Vice President for Research Development overseeing the Office of Research Development, Dr. Kantor served as an Air Force Civil Servant in a wide range of senior roles. He was the Chief Scientist for the 311th Human Systems Wing and was responsible for research and educational activities engaging resources in excess of $1B to create comprehensive solutions for Air Force and Homeland Security problems. Dr. Kantor established and directed international research and development programs with NATO, Australia, and Japan and as Deputy Director of the Human Systems Program office co-lead a 500 person organization simultaneously conducting 25 research and development programs totaling over $125M annually. Dr. Kantor was Chief of the Cognitive Skills Research Branch of the Air Force Human Resources Laboratory and directed the team that developed the current procedures used by the Air Force to select individuals for pilot training. He also served for 12 years as a faculty member at St. Mary’s University in San Antonio and taught graduate courses in Research Design and Advanced Statistics.
