UTSA is now a member of the Medical Technology Enterprise Consortium (MTEC), a nationally-dispersed consortium with members from industry, academia and the nonprofit sector. MTEC is a biomedical technology consortium collaborating with multiple government agencies under a 10-year renewable Other Transaction Agreement (OTA) with the U.S. Army Medical Research and Materiel Command (USAMRMC).
MTEC fosters integrated research partnerships and speeds the availability of solutions to the military, veterans the civilian population.
With more than 100 members currently, the consortium is always seeking to grow the membership. UTSA joins numerous universities such as Arizona State University, Brown University, Carnegie Mellon University, Indiana University, Iowa State University, Kansas State University, Northwestern University, Ohio State University, UT Health (San Antonio and Houston), Southwest Research Institute, University of Michigan, University of Maryland, Vanderbilt University and many more universities throughout the United States. In addition, consortium members include small and large businesses, and not-for-profit organizations.
Consortium membership benefits include:
- Networking opportunities with other industry and academic MTEC members, as well as opportunities with government stakeholders through annual membership meetings, conferences and forums.
- Affords greater visibility into government needs and priorities and an increased ability to leverage IR&D investments to meet those needs.
- Operates through a flexible contracting vehicle that minimizes cash flow challenges for small businesses that receive research project awards.
- In addition, MTEC provides UTSA with insight into Government research needs. This helps UTSA understand opportunities and target Internal Research and Development (IR&D) investments in areas that align with Government needs.
- Networking opportunities. Organizations can partner with and learn from one another and government stakeholders at events, conferences and forums.
