Faculty Cluster Hires 2021

The University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA) is a distinguished Hispanic Serving Institution, committed to advancing the next generation of Hispanic/Latino and other historically underrepresented leaders through being a model for student success, a great research university, and an exemplar for strategic growth and innovative excellence. UTSA is a proud member of the University of Texas system, known world-wide for its quality and impact, and as a Top 25 Rising Young University (Nature Index, 2019).

President Taylor Eighmy’s vision for the future is centered on reaching three bold destinations, one of which is that UTSA will be a Great Public Research University. Through targeted academic and research excellence initiatives, we are also now at the cusp of achieving the National Research University Fund (NRUF) designation from the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board (THECB), which will open up access to additional state funding to support our discovery enterprise. In regards to faculty excellence, over the last few years, we have pursued strategic hiring initiatives to both increase the number of faculty at UTSA who are fellows of the American Academy of Arts & Sciences and National Academies of Engineering and Medicine as well as those who have research expertise in targeted cluster topic areas of national and global significance. We now have five (5) National Academy members and 39 Tenured/Tenure-Track cluster faculty who have joined our community, further contributing to our faculty excellence initiatives. These faculty recruitment initiatives have had significant support due to our successful pursuit of funding from the state Governor’s University Research Initiative (GURI) as well as The University of Texas System’s STARs program.

The University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA) is recruiting world-class researchers as part of a Clustered & Connected Hiring Program. We are seeking faculty members to foster collaborative research, education, and outreach and create transdisciplinary areas of knowledge that will advance their respective fields. We invite applications for the following research cluster…

Human Performance (3 positions)

  1. Department Chair in Kinesiology in the College for Health, Community and Policy
  2. Assistant Professor in Data Science in the College of Engineering and College for Health, Community and Policy (joint departmental appointment preferred)

Latin America (2 positions)

  2. Open Rank Position (Assistant or Associate) in Art & Art History with focus on Digital Space in the College of Liberal and Fine Arts

The College of Liberal and Fine Arts (COLFA) seeks two faculty members who will expand the digital scholarship footprint within the Social and Environmental Challenges in Latin America cluster.  We define digital scholarship broadly, including new media studies, digital design, digital humanities, and new journalism, among other areas.  Strong preference will be given to applicants who can contribute to both the scholarly domains of digital scholarship and the technical domains of digital production. Faculty will be housed in one or more of COLFA’s nine departments as appropriate.

Review of applications will begin on October 19th, 2020
Applications received after this date will be accepted and reviewed until the position is filled.
