From May 9 to 11, The University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA) will host the The Honeynet Project Workshop, a unique information security trends conference focusing on the tools, tactics and motives involved in computer and network attacks. Attendees from around the world, including a delegation of cyber experts from San Antonio, will take part in world-class hands-on trainings, technical discussions and information exchange.
Each year the Honeynet Project’s annual workshop brings together top national and international information security experts to present their latest research efforts and discuss insights and strategies to combat new threats. The event provides participants and sponsors with significant exposure to world-class professionals and a diverse range of information security topics such as deception, honeypots, malware analysis, and security visualization. Over 40 information security experts from fifteen countries will be in attendance.
The Honeynet Project is a leading international 501c3 non-profit security research organization, dedicated to investigating the latest attacks and developing open source security tools to improve Internet security. With chapters around the world, their volunteers have contributed to fight against malware (such as Confickr) by discovering new attacks and creating security tools used by businesses and government agencies all over the world.
Honeynet continues to be on the cutting edge of security research by working to analyze the latest attacks and educating the public about threats to information systems across the world. Founded in 1999, The Honeynet Project has contributed to fight against malware and malicious hacking attacks and has the leading security professional among members and alumni.
“It’s quite a coup for San Antonio to be the host city for the Honeynet Project Workshop. We’re in good company with San Francisco, Dubai and Paris, former host cities,” said Max Kilger, director of Data Analytics Programs at the UTSA College of Business, the lead local organizer and a founding member of the Honeynet Project. “It’s a different city each year, never to be repeated, and what better community than San Antonio to host global speakers and delegates given its cyber history and reputation? We’re ready to welcome our local cyber community to this international conference and interact with the top information security people in the world.”
