This workshop is being developed in collaboration with the Office of the Vice President for Research and Innovation, the National Security Collaboration Center (NSCC), and the Institute for Cyber Security (ICS).
This workshop will bring together Texas-based university cybersecurity faculty and postdoctoral researchers. Together, we will discuss strategic and tactical mission operations and security challenges facing us today and in the 2030s and beyond. Representatives from commercial, civil, and national security space sectors will be invited to join the discussions to provide their current, real-world perspectives. To facilitate productive dialogue, total participation will be limited to 75–100 people.
University participants need not be space domain experts. In fact, we specifically seek to facilitate the translation of terrestrial cybersecurity expertise into the space domain in ways that address the real needs of space operators. A recent internal UT San Antonio white paper illuminates research areas with significant terrestrial-to-space translation potential. This list is neither prioritized nor exhaustive.
Participants will have opportunities to refine research priorities, explore Texas-based collaboration opportunities, and help establish a statewide community of practice focused on the emerging cyber-space domain.
This will be an open conference with unclassified discussions. Texas-based faculty members and post-doctoral scholars are welcome. Due to national security considerations, U.S. citizenship is required for participation.

The North Paseo Building serves as the university’s front door and is known for its award-winning design. When designing the building, architecture firm Page used elemental simplicity, off-the-shelf materials, crisp detailing and strong urban design moves as well as a fresh look to combine indoor and outdoor spaces.
The five-story, 176,000 square-foot structure opened in September 2014. It contains research and teaching laboratories, classrooms, seminar rooms, and faculty and staff offices. The building features a wide corridor and seating areas to service first-floor classrooms. Landscaping and shaded outdoor seating enhances the north side of the facility. A glass wall creates a strong visual connection between outdoors and indoors with an inviting environment for informal gathering and group study.
At the building's south end, a stairwell open to the fifth floor and topped with a skylight allows light to pass through multiple floors. The open stairway promotes interaction between floors and improved physical fitness, enticing more use of the stairs and less of the elevator. A wall system with doors on each level slides close in the instance of a fire.
