The San Antonio Military Health System, comprising the 59th Medical Wing and Brooke Army Medical Center, alongside UTSA and UT Health San Antonio, created the annual SAMHS and Universities Research Forum (SURF) back in 2015, highlighting the latest research and discoveries of trainees, faculty, staff and students working to improve health outcomes and readiness of the military community.

In partnership with the President and Academic Affairs, we launched a series of lectures by prominent Academy Fellows in spring 2019, with the goal of exposing the campus community to the internationally recognized innovations of these scholars while showcasing the talent and expertise of our own faculty, staff and students. Becoming a member of a national or international academy solidifies a faculty member’s scholarly and research accomplishments, celebrating not only the scholar’s accomplishments but also the institution in being recognized as a premier academic and research university. Speakers represent a variety of disciplines that intersect with research specialties across the UTSA knowledge enterprise.

Organized by the UTSA Institute for Economic development, the Texas Rural Challenge (TRC) is an annual conference focused on business and economic development, community development, and rural issues. With presentations and workshops by top innovators and change agents from across state and federal agencies and the private sector, their objective is to help rural communities thrive by providing economic development resources and information to grow and succeed in any environment. The conference features a wide range of best practices, collaboration opportunities, and ‘how-to’ learning experiences aimed at putting big ideas into practice.
