Best and Honorable Research Paper

The  UTSA Academy of Distinguished Researchers (ADR) has established the Best Research Paper and Honorable Mention Research Awards. Each year, the Academy may award a Best Research Paper Award to one paper from each college. The Academy may also award an Honorable Mention Award for the second-best research paper from each college.

This call is for UTSA College Deans. Papers are evaluated based on originality, rigor, significance, and delivery.  Only papers accepted for publication in the last three years are eligible for the award (in some fields, papers accepted for conference publication are eligible for the award).

These awards, like the Academy itself, seek to foster and promote excellence in research, discovery, and training; advance and sustain The University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA) as a premier research university; and promote the values of research excellence, integrity, inclusiveness, collaboration, creativity, and ingenuity.

Eligibility

• Each college dean can nominate up to two papers from two different faculty whose primary appointment resides within their respective college.
• Faculty nominees must be full-time faculty at UTSA in residence at the time of publication date.
  • Co-authors may be from external institutions; however, they are not eligible to receive the award.
• Only papers accepted within the last 3 calendar years, 2022-2024.
• High-quality and leading academic journals will be eligible unless the academic field primarily recognizes conferences (e.g., computer science and computer engineering), in which case papers accepted into a leading conference will be eligible.
• Papers by current members of the Academy of Distinguished Researchers (ADR) are not eligible for nomination. A full list of current members is available here.
• Faculty self-nominations are not eligible.

Award Information

• Estimated number of Awards: Six (6) Best Research Paper Awards and (6)Honorable Mention Research Awards, one each per college.
• Best Research Paper award: $1,000.00 (taxable - recipient is responsible for the taxes associated with this award)) per paper and a framed recognition certificate. (The financial award will be equally distributed among UTSA co-authors. Subject to the availability of funds.)
• Honorable Mention Research Award: $250.00 (taxable - recipient is responsible for the taxes associated with this award) per paper and diamond award. (The financial award will be equally distributed among UTSA co-authors. Subject to the availability of funds.)
• The Best Research Paper Award and Honorable Mention Research Award recipients will be honored at the annual ADR membership induction ceremony. Please note, as an internal award, ADR will only recognize currently appointed UTSA Authors/Co-Authors at the ceremony.
