Anthony Francis, currently Associate Vice President for Innovation and Development at UT Health San Antonio, will take on the additional role of Interim Director of the Office of Commercialization and Innovation at UTSA, effective June 1.
In this leadership position within the Office of Research, Francis will oversee UTSA’s technology transfer strategy, industry partnerships, and commercialization efforts—helping faculty and student researchers bring their innovations to market.
As UTSA and UT Health San Antonio prepare for integration, Francis will play a key role in aligning commercialization strategies across both institutions. His dual appointment reflects a shared commitment to expanding opportunities for faculty to translate research into real-world impact and strengthening a connected, collaborative innovation ecosystem.
Francis brings extensive experience leading innovation initiatives and building strategic partnerships to support academic research translation. He will work closely with faculty, staff, and external stakeholders to advance UTSA’s commercialization goals and support the university’s mission as a driver of economic and societal progress.
