Faculty Research Development: Generating Research
The U.S. Department of Agriculture Office of Partnerships & Public Engagement (OPPE) is hosting a half-day Symposium on Federal Programs and Resources for Hispanic-Serving Institutions (HSIs) with an emphasis on research experiences and development.
The HSI community and partnering stakeholders are invited to hear from Departmental Leadership, Program Officers, and Project Coordinators about a variety of federal funding sources offered at USDA and other partnering Federal Agencies aimed to assist institutions in expanding research development and experiences for faculty and students at HSIs across the country. This includes learning about how USDA supports student research opportunities at various agencies within the Department via grants, partnerships, and collaborations.

Recently, Secretary Vilsack announced funding for the From Learning to Leading: Cultivating the Next Generation of Diverse Food and Agriculture Professionals | National Institute of Food and Agriculture (usda.gov) grant program.
The anticipated funding for the program is $250 million. Hispanic-Serving Agricultural Colleges and Universities (HSACU) are eligible to apply for FY22-NG RFA (usda.gov).
There are three project types:
- Student Scholarships Projects (SSP),
- Experiential learning Projects (ELP) and
- Outreach and Engagement Projects (OEP).
Eligible institutions may not submit more than three applications to the program as a lead institution. Deadline to apply is October 25, 2022.
The UT System schools that are designated as HSACUs and eligible to apply are UTA, UT, UTEP, UTSA, and UTRGV.
