FY 26 IIMS CTR Pilot Project (October 2025 – July 31, 2026)

Eligible: Active faculty-level appointment at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio (UTHSCSA) or one of its CTSA partner/collaborator institutions (the University of Texas at San Antonio)

The Institute for Integration of Medicine & Science (IIMS) is soliciting proposals for pilot project awards. The primary goal of this program is to support early-stage, collaborative, translational, and clinical studies that will lead to increased interdisciplinary, institutional, and community-based research likely to compete successfully for national grant support and ultimately to improve human health.

Collaboration Requirement: Applicants from partner institutions must include a meaningful collaboration with a UTHSCSA Co-Investigator.

UTSA & TEC Seed Grant Program

Eligible: Full-time, tenure-track, and tenured faculty at UTSA. Proposals must include multiple (2 or more: at least one from each institution) interacting investigators with PI status from UTSA and TEC.

The UTSA & TEC Seed Grant Program, sponsored by The University of Texas at San Antonio and The Tecnológico de Monterrey (TEC), aims to support innovative, early-stage collaborative projects that further our mutual research interests; strengthen connections among UTSA and TEC campuses; and enable the development and submission of proposals for larger-scale support from federal, state, industrial and/or private funding sources (domestic or international), ultimately resulting in contracts from government or industry.

• The combined contributions of the two organizations are $40,000 (USD), of which UTSA will dedicate $20,000.

The MAC-UTSA Collaborative Seed Funding Grant

Eligible: Full-time, tenured, and tenure-track faculty at UTSA or doctoral student with an identified UTSA faculty mentor.

The Multi-Assistance Center at Morgan’s Wonderland (The MAC) has partnered with the University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA) to create the Evaluation and Research Coordinating Center (ERCC). The goals of the ERCC are to (1) provide access to evaluation results and quality improvement data for The MAC, and (2) serve as a central point for facilitating research of interest to The MAC and its stakeholders. With support from Texas Congressmen Castro, the ERCC is offering its inaugural seed funding opportunity. This request for application outlines the goals of the seed funding and the application requirements.

Brain Health Consortium Collaborative Seed Grant (BHC CSG)

The Brain Health Consortium Collaborative Seed Grant (BHC CSG) program, sponsored by the UTSA Research and Brain Health Consortium (BHC), is offering seed grants to support transdisciplinary research in areas that advance our fundamental understanding of the brain in health and disease, advance understanding of social determinants of brain health (e.g., healthcare equity, educational equity, etc.), lead to development of interventions to advance brain health (e.g., interventions for mental and behavioral health, interventions to increase brain health literacy in underserved populations, etc.), or advance research to increase inclusion of diverse populations in brain health research, especially from underrepresented communities. CSG funding through this program is an opportunity for UTSA faculty to begin innovative transdisciplinary research that will open new areas of research strength and become competitive for long-term extramural funding.

Cancer Moonshot Pilot Projects

The Mays Cancer Center at UT Health San Antonio and The University of Texas San Antonio (UTSA) are soliciting proposals for joint pilot projects resulting from our recent Cancer Moonshot Joint Retreat (held September 7, 2022). The primary goal of these programs is to support early-stage collaborative studies that will lead to increased interdisciplinary, institutional, and community-based research likely to compete successfully for national grant support and ultimately to improve human health.

Collaboration Requirement: Each project should be led by two co-principal investigators, one from the Mays Cancer Center (MCC) and one from UTSA (minimum 2 team members with equal PI status). At least one of the PIs must have participated in the September 7, 2022, Cancer Moonshot joint retreat.

Eligible: PIs and Co-PIs must be full-time, tenure track or tenured faculty at UTSA in residence at the time of application.
