The Office of Research welcomes Lori Schultz in the role of Senior Associate Vice President for Research Administration

Lori Schultz will join the Office of Research effective May 1, 2024, as Senior Associate Vice President for Research Administration (SAVPRA). The SAVPRA advises senior leaders and partners with faculty and staff to design, refine, and implement services, programs, and policies to further UTSA's position as a leader in world-class research.

Shultz brings extensive experience in higher education and research operations leadership to the role. She joins UTSA from the University of Arizona, where she worked in research-related roles for nearly 30 years. Most recently, she has served as Assistant Vice President, Research Intelligence since 2020. She is an experienced leader with a proven track record of intelligence and research security, capacity building, and pandemic response. In addition to her extensive experience, her 23 publications and presentations on research, strategy, and funding are a testament to her expertise in the research space.

In this role, Schultz will serve as the chief financial and administrative officer for the Office of Research operations and business-related functions including finance, budget, personnel, research services, facilities planning, grant administration, and research policy development, interpretation, and dissemination. She will oversee the Office of Sponsored Projects, Research Integrity and Infrastructure, Contracts and Industrial Agreements, Research Finance and Operations, and Research IT and Business Intelligence. In this capacity, Schultz will promote research growth by executing effective, efficient, and service-oriented research administration operations and support across the institution.

The SAVPRA is responsible for a wide range of activities vital to our enterprise, including developing a plan for Research Administration that meets the needs of multiple constituencies, advising the Vice President for Research on strategic investments and initiatives, research policy development and practices, providing appropriate data and reports to support research faculty and strategic institutional planning for research activities, and many more.
